Racism is a human condition

Anti-racism is the term I keep seeing. The anti-racism message seems to be spread amongst other people who agree with this message. (For the most part) Of course, we do. We all bleed, shit, and cry. It’s a simple yet powerful truth that most of us hold close to our hearts. We are all human.

Now… is telling someone who is truly racist that it’s wrong going to change his or her mind? Maybe. But these are the people we want to be speaking with right? The people who feel innately better than others because of their pigment.

I’m not sure how to get someone who is truly racist to love a human with different skin color. My initial thought would be to speak with someone who was once racist but has truly changed.

I would ask them:

• What core truth do you hold on to now that you did not before?

• Who or what event helped you discover this truth?

• Why do you feel that you held onto this lie for so long?

If we are going to irradiate racism in our country then we need to find a way to empathize with them. To speak with them directly.

When I think about it. I can empathize with at least a portion of what is going on in the mind of a racist human. I am guilty of comparing myself to others. Not because of race but because of status. No matter how unhappy they are with themselves they always have the excuse. “At least I’m white”. It’s…
